Utilize Carcass Ultrasound in Sheep Production

Although not as commonly utilized in small ruminants, carcass ultrasound has the potential to advance the sheep and goat industries, just as it has for the beef industry.  CUP Lab®, LLC has been interpreting sheep carcass images for the National Sheep Improvement Program for the past five years.  The three traits collected during sheep carcass ultrasounds are: loin eye area, loin depth, and rib fat.  Centralized ultrasound processing through The CUP Lab®, LLC can assist with breeding decisions by finding outlier animals and identifying the animals with superior carcass characteristics.
